Remove the cherry pits from ripe fruit
Rinse the pits thoroughly to remove all fruit flesh
Dry the pits for a day or two
Crack the hard outer pit carefully to expose the seed, if desired
Soak the seeds in water for 24 hours
Place the seeds in a damp paper towel or moist peat moss
Seal them in a plastic bag or container
Refrigerate them for 10 to 14 weeks
Check periodically to keep the medium moist
Plant the sprouted seeds in small pots with well-draining soil
Keep the soil lightly moist
Place the pots in a warm, bright location
Transplant seedlings outdoors after they are strong enough
