Use keyboard shortcuts for common accents:
Windows: press Ctrl + `, then the letter for grave accents (à, è, ì, ò, ù)
Windows: press Ctrl + ‘, then the letter for acute accents (á, é, í, ó, ú)
Windows: press Ctrl + Shift + ^, then the letter for circumflex accents (â, ê, î, ô, û)
Windows: press Ctrl + Shift + :, then the letter for umlauts/diaeresis (ä, ë, ï, ö, ü)
Windows: press Ctrl + Shift + ~, then the letter for tilde (ã, ñ, õ)
Mac: press and hold the letter to see accent options
Mac: use Option + `, then the letter for grave accents

Insert accents from Word’s Symbols menu
Go to Insert > Symbol > More Symbols
Choose the desired accented character and insert it
Use AutoCorrect for frequently used accented words
Change keyboard language or add an international keyboard layout
Copy and paste accented letters from another source if needed
