Type the number or letter
Select the character you want to make an exponent
Go to the Home tab
Click the Superscript button in the Font group
Use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + Shift + =
On Mac, use Command + Shift + =
Type the exponent after the base number
Turn off Superscript when you are done
