Drink water and sit upright for 5–10 minutes
Do a slow breathing reset: inhale through nose 4 seconds, exhale 6 seconds for 2–3 minutes
Eat a small salty snack if you can safely have salt (e.g., salted crackers or broth)
If you’ve been fasting or dehydrated, have an oral rehydration solution or electrolyte drink
If you have diabetes and feel low blood sugar symptoms, check glucose and treat per your plan (e.g., 15 g fast carbs, recheck in 15 minutes)
Increase fluid intake gradually over the next hour if you are not on fluid restriction
Wear compression stockings or use an abdominal binder if available
Lie down with legs elevated for 10–20 minutes, then slowly stand up
If you have been prescribed a medication for low blood pressure, take it exactly as directed
Avoid sudden standing, hot showers, alcohol, and heavy exertion right now
Call emergency services immediately if you have chest pain, severe shortness of breath, fainting, confusion, weakness on one side, severe headache, or a blood pressure reading with symptoms is very low (e.g., systolic under 90)
Seek urgent medical care if low blood pressure persists despite the steps above or keeps recurring
