OD or O.D. = right eye
OS or O.S. = left eye
OU = both eyes
SPH or Sphere = lens power for nearsightedness or farsightedness
Minus sign (-) = nearsightedness
Plus sign (+) = farsightedness
CYL or Cylinder = amount of astigmatism correction
AXIS = direction of astigmatism correction, from 1 to 180
ADD = extra magnifying power for reading or bifocals/progressives
Prism = correction for eye alignment
Base = direction of prism correction
PD = pupillary distance, the distance between your pupils
VA or Visual Acuity = vision sharpness
A higher absolute SPH, CYL, or ADD number means a stronger lens power
Example: OD -2.00 -1.25 x 180 = right eye with nearsightedness, astigmatism, and axis at 180
Example: OS +1.50 -0.50 x 090 = left eye with farsightedness, astigmatism, and axis at 90
