Apply a cold compress for 10 to 15 minutes at a time
Keep your head elevated
Avoid rubbing or touching your eyes

Use artificial tears if the swelling is from irritation
Take an antihistamine if allergies are the cause
Reduce salt intake
Drink plenty of water
Get enough sleep
Avoid makeup and eye products until swelling improves
Rinse the eyes with clean water or saline if exposed to an irritant
Seek medical care if swelling is severe, painful, one-sided, or affects vision
