Remove the stinger immediately by scraping it out with a fingernail or credit card
Wash the area with soap and water
Apply a cold compress or ice wrapped in cloth for 10 to 15 minutes at a time
Elevate the affected area if possible
Take an over-the-counter antihistamine if needed
Use an over-the-counter pain reliever if needed
Apply a hydrocortisone cream or calamine lotion
Avoid scratching the sting site
Wear loose clothing if the sting is on an arm or leg
Seek emergency help if there is trouble breathing, swelling of the face or throat, dizziness, or widespread hives
