Do not try to remove nasal polyps yourself
Seek an ENT (otolaryngologist) for diagnosis and a treatment plan
Use prescribed nasal steroid sprays as directed by a clinician
Use saline nasal rinses (sterile/distilled or previously boiled water) as directed
Avoid smoking and secondhand smoke
Manage allergies with clinician-guided treatment (e.g., antihistamines, allergy control)
If you have asthma or aspirin-exacerbated respiratory disease, follow your clinician’s asthma/medication plan
Check for triggers (NSAIDs like ibuprofen/aspirin, irritants, dust, strong fumes) and avoid them if advised
Use a humidifier if your environment is dry, and keep it clean
If you were prescribed antibiotics for sinus infection symptoms, take them exactly as directed
Go to urgent care or the ER if you have severe one-sided facial pain/swelling, fever, vision changes, severe headache, stiff neck, or rapidly worsening symptoms
Avoid home procedures that can injure tissue (picking, digging, using sharp tools, suction/aspiration attempts)
Avoid unproven remedies (herbal “polyp removers,” caustic sprays, essential oils in the nose)
If symptoms persist despite medical therapy, ask about endoscopic evaluation and possible removal options in a clinic or operating room
