Turn off power to the garbage disposal at the breaker
Unplug the disposal if it has a plug
Disconnect the drain trap and discharge pipe
Disconnect the dishwasher drain hose if attached
Place a bucket or towel under the unit
Loosen the mounting ring or mounting bolts
Support the disposal with one hand while removing it
Twist the disposal counterclockwise to release it from the sink flange
Lower the disposal carefully
Remove the sink flange if needed
Clean the sink opening and mounting area
Cap or reconnect the drain lines as needed
Restore power only after installation is complete or the opening is properly sealed
