Shift the chain onto the smallest chainring and smallest rear cog
Open the quick link or remove the chain with a chain tool
Remove the old chain from the drivetrain
Compare the new chain length to the old chain
If needed, size the new chain by threading it through the derailleur and cutting it to match the correct length
Route the new chain through the front derailleur, rear derailleur, and around the chainrings and cassette
Join the chain with a quick link or chain pin
Check that the chain is fully connected and moves smoothly
Pedal backward and shift through the gears to confirm proper operation
Lubricate the new chain
Wipe off any excess lubricant
