Turn off power to the sump pump at the breaker
Unplug the pump from the outlet
Remove the sump pit lid, if present
Check the pit for debris and standing water level
Disconnect the discharge pipe from the pump
Remove any check valve or fittings attached to the old pump
Lift the old pump out of the sump pit
Clean the sump pit and remove sludge or debris
Compare the new pump to the old one for size and fit
Attach the discharge pipe and fittings to the new pump
Install or replace the check valve if needed
Place the new pump in the sump pit
Ensure the float switch has enough clearance to move freely
Reconnect the discharge pipe securely
Plug the pump into a GFCI outlet
Restore power at the breaker
Pour water into the pit to test the pump
Confirm the pump turns on, drains water, and shuts off properly
Reinstall the sump pit lid
Check for leaks and verify proper drainage outside
