How To Replace Power Steering Pump?

Park the vehicle on a level surface and set the parking brake

Disconnect the negative battery cable

Locate the power steering pump

Remove the drive belt or serpentine belt from the pump pulley

Place a drain pan under the pump and hoses

Disconnect the power steering pressure and return hoses

Cap or plug the hose openings

Remove any mounting bolts, brackets, or accessories blocking access

Remove the pump from the engine

Transfer the pulley, reservoir, or fittings to the new pump if required

Install the new pump in position

Tighten the mounting bolts to specification

Reconnect the pressure and return hoses

Reinstall the drive belt or serpentine belt

Fill the reservoir with the correct power steering fluid

Reconnect the negative battery cable

Start the engine and check for leaks

Turn the steering wheel lock to lock several times to bleed air from the system

Recheck the fluid level and top off as needed

Verify proper steering operation

Reinspect all connections and belt tension
