How To Sanitize Sponges?

Microwave method: Wet sponge thoroughly, squeeze out excess water, microwave on high 1–2 minutes (until hot)

Bleach soak: Mix 1 tablespoon unscented household bleach per 1 quart (about 1 liter) of water, soak sponge 5 minutes, then rinse well and air-dry

Dishwasher method: Place sponge on top rack, run a hot cycle with heated dry, then air-dry

Boiling method: Boil sponge in water 5 minutes, then remove carefully and air-dry

Replace regularly: Discard sponges when they stay smelly, look worn, or after heavy contamination

After meat/seafood cleanup: Sanitize immediately using bleach soak or microwave, then rinse well

After cleaning with bleach: Ensure sponge is fully rinsed to remove bleach residue before reuse

Dry completely: After sanitizing, squeeze out water and let sponge dry fully between uses
