Wear gloves and safety glasses
Secure the chainsaw and engage the chain brake
Clean the chain and inspect for damage
Identify the correct file size for your chain
Place the file guide on the cutter at the correct angle
File each cutter from the inside to the outside
Use the same number of strokes on each cutter
Sharpen all cutters on one side first
Rotate to the other side and sharpen the remaining cutters
Check and adjust the depth gauges with a gauge tool
File depth gauges if needed
Lubricate the chain after sharpening
Test the chainsaw on a small piece of wood
