Secure the drill bit in a vise or hold it firmly against a bench grinder tool rest
Match the original point angle of the bit
Align one cutting edge with the grinding surface
Grind the cutting edge lightly for a short pass
Keep the bit cool by dipping it in water often
Grind the opposite cutting edge the same amount
Check that both cutting edges are equal in length
Check that the chisel edge is centered
Repeat small grinding passes until the edges are sharp
Test the bit on scrap material
Regrind if the bit cuts unevenly or wanders
Use a drill bit sharpening jig if needed
Wear safety glasses and gloves
Avoid overheating the bit
