Choose a healthy, plump ginger rhizome with visible buds
Soak the rhizome in water for a few hours if it is dry
Cut the rhizome into pieces, making sure each piece has at least one bud
Let the cut pieces dry for 1 to 2 days
Fill a pot or garden bed with loose, rich, well-draining soil
Plant the rhizome pieces 1 to 2 inches deep with buds facing up
Space the pieces several inches apart
Water lightly after planting
Keep the soil consistently moist but not soggy
Place in warm, shaded, or partial-sun conditions
Wait for shoots to emerge before increasing watering slightly
Add mulch to help retain moisture
Harvest when the leaves begin to yellow and die back
