Clean the hole or crack
Remove loose debris and dust
Lightly sand rough edges
Choose the right spackle for the repair
Load a putty knife with spackle
Press spackle into the hole or crack
Scrape off excess spackle
Let the spackle dry completely
Apply a second coat if needed
Sand the patched area smooth
Wipe away dust
Prime and paint the repaired area
