Put on a helmet and any required safety gear
Sit on the motorcycle and hold it upright
Make sure the transmission is in neutral
Turn the fuel valve on, if applicable
Turn the ignition key to the on position
Set the kill switch to run
Pull in the clutch lever if the bike requires it
Open the choke if the engine is cold, if applicable
Press the starter button or use the kickstarter
Let the engine idle briefly
Push the choke back in gradually as the engine warms up
Check that the bike is ready before riding
