Place the trimmer on level ground
Make sure the cutting head is clear of grass and debris
Set the stop switch to the ON or RUN position
Engage the choke if the engine is cold
Press the primer bulb several times if equipped
Hold the unit firmly on the ground
Pull the starter rope until the engine tries to start
Move the choke to the half-choke or run position
Pull the starter rope again until the engine starts
Blip the throttle if needed to keep it running
Disengage the choke after the engine warms up
Set the throttle to idle and begin using the trimmer
