Use sanitary pads, not tampons or menstrual cups
Rest and avoid heavy lifting, strenuous exercise, and sex until bleeding slows and your clinician says it is safe
Drink fluids and eat regularly
Take only the pain medicines recommended by your clinician
Apply a heating pad or warm compress to your lower abdomen if needed
If bleeding is heavy, lie down and keep track of how many pads you use
Seek urgent medical care if you soak 2 or more large pads per hour for 2 hours in a row
Seek urgent medical care if you pass very large clots, feel faint, have severe pain, fever, or foul-smelling discharge
Contact your abortion provider or a doctor if bleeding does not start to lessen after a few days or lasts longer than expected
Call emergency services right away if you have trouble breathing, collapse, or have signs of shock
