Sit upright and lean slightly forward
Pinch the soft part of your nose just below the bridge
Hold steady pressure for 10 to 15 minutes without checking
Breathe through your mouth
Spit out any blood that drains into your mouth
Apply a cold compress or ice pack to the bridge of your nose
Repeat the pinch for another 10 to 15 minutes if bleeding continues
Avoid blowing, picking, or rubbing your nose for several hours
Avoid bending over, heavy lifting, or strenuous activity
Use a saline spray or humidifier after the bleeding stops if your nose is dry
Seek urgent medical help if bleeding is heavy, lasts longer than 20 minutes, or follows an injury
