Sit or lie down immediately when dizziness starts
Keep your head still and avoid sudden movements
Focus your eyes on a fixed point
Drink water if you may be dehydrated
Avoid driving, climbing, or using machinery during an episode
Rest in a quiet, dim room
Rise slowly from sitting or lying positions
Avoid alcohol, nicotine, and caffeine if they trigger symptoms
Eat regular meals to prevent low blood sugar
Try the Epley maneuver if your vertigo is from BPPV and you have been shown how to do it
Use prescribed vertigo medicine only as directed by a clinician
Treat any ear infection, migraine, or other underlying cause
See a doctor if vertigo is frequent, severe, or persistent
Get urgent medical help if you have weakness, numbness, trouble speaking, chest pain, fainting, or a severe headache
