Stop taking the laxative
Drink water or an oral rehydration solution
Eat bland foods such as bananas, rice, applesauce, and toast
Avoid dairy, greasy foods, alcohol, caffeine, and spicy foods
Rest and let your body recover
Do not take more laxatives or anti-diarrheal medicines unless a doctor says it is safe
Seek medical help if diarrhea is severe, lasts more than 24 to 48 hours, or you have dizziness, weakness, blood in stool, severe abdominal pain, or signs of dehydration
