Wash and dry your hand
Hold your thumb in a neutral, comfortable position
Place a strip of athletic tape around the base of the thumb
Wrap the tape once around the wrist to anchor it
Bring the tape diagonally across the back of the hand to the thumb
Wrap around the thumb joint without making it too tight
Add a second strip in a figure-eight pattern between thumb and wrist if needed
Leave the thumb tip exposed
Check that circulation is not restricted
Remove and re-tape if there is numbness, tingling, or discoloration
