Get out of the water immediately
Rinse the sting with vinegar for at least 30 seconds
Remove visible tentacles with tweezers or gloved hands
If vinegar is unavailable, rinse with seawater
Do not rub the area
Do not rinse with fresh water
Do not apply urine, alcohol, or ammonia
Soak the area in hot water, 104–113°F, for 20–45 minutes if available
Use a cold pack if hot water is not available
Take an over-the-counter pain reliever if needed
Seek emergency help if there is trouble breathing, chest pain, widespread hives, severe swelling, or loss of consciousness
Get medical care if the sting is from a box jellyfish or the pain is severe or persistent
