Remove the person from the source of the burn
Cool the burn with cool running water for 20 minutes
Remove rings, watches, belts, and tight clothing
Cover the burn with a clean, non-stick sterile dressing or cling film
Keep the person warm
Give pain relief if appropriate and safe
Do not use ice
Do not apply butter, oils, creams, or toothpaste
Do not break blisters
Do not remove clothing stuck to the burn
Seek urgent medical help for large, deep, or facial burns
Seek urgent medical help for burns to hands, feet, genitals, or major joints
Seek urgent medical help for chemical or electrical burns
Seek urgent medical help for signs of infection or shock
Call emergency services for severe burns or breathing problems
