Rest as much as possible

Use over-the-counter pain relievers for fever or discomfort
Use over-the-counter cough medicine if appropriate
Avoid smoking and secondhand smoke
Avoid dust, fumes, and other irritants
Sleep with your head elevated
Use saline nasal spray or rinse if you have congestion
Wash your hands often
Monitor your symptoms
Seek medical care if you have trouble breathing, chest pain, high fever, coughing up blood, or symptoms that worsen or last more than a few weeks
