Call emergency services immediately
Move the person to a warm, dry place
Remove wet clothing
Replace with dry clothing or blankets
Insulate the person from the cold ground
Wrap the person in blankets, including the head and neck
Use body heat if possible
Warm the chest, neck, and groin with warm compresses
Give warm, nonalcoholic, noncaffeinated drinks if the person is awake and able to swallow
Handle the person gently
Keep the person still and lying down
Monitor breathing and pulse
Start CPR if the person is not breathing and you are trained
Do not rub or massage the person
Do not use direct heat such as hot water, heating pads, or fires
Do not give alcohol
Do not give food or drink to an unconscious person
Get medical care as soon as possible
