Get out of the sun immediately
Apply a cool compress or cold damp cloth for 10–15 minutes at a time
Splash face with cool water or take a cool shower
Apply aloe vera gel or a fragrance-free soothing moisturizer
Use a gentle, alcohol-free moisturizer while skin is still damp
Drink plenty of water
Take ibuprofen or acetaminophen if needed for pain, following the label
Avoid popping blisters
Do not use ice directly on the skin
Do not use scrubs, retinoids, acids, or other harsh skincare products
Avoid makeup until the skin calms down
Stay out of the sun until healed
Use a broad-spectrum SPF 30+ sunscreen after the skin is no longer too tender
Seek medical help if you have severe swelling, blistering, fever, chills, dizziness, or eye pain
