Swallow, yawn, or chew gum
Try the Valsalva maneuver gently
Use the Toynbee maneuver: pinch your nose and swallow
Apply a warm compress to the ear
Use over-the-counter ear drops if earwax is the cause
Soften earwax with mineral oil, baby oil, or glycerin
Irrigate the ear gently with warm water if appropriate
Keep your head tilted to help fluid drain
Use a decongestant if congestion is causing the blockage
Try steam inhalation or a warm shower
Avoid using cotton swabs or inserting objects into the ear
See a doctor if pain, fever, drainage, dizziness, or hearing loss persists
