Fit the piping bag with the desired tip
Trim the bag if needed so the tip fits snugly
Fold the top of the bag outward to create a cuff
Hold the bag upright in a tall glass or cup
Spoon in the frosting, cream, or batter
Unfold the cuff and twist the top closed
Hold the bag with one hand at the top and the other near the tip
Apply steady pressure from the top hand
Guide the tip with the lower hand
Pipe onto the surface in the desired pattern
Stop pressure before lifting the tip away
Refill the bag as needed
Clean the bag and tip after use
