Turn on the stud finder
Calibrate it on the wall
Place it flat against the wall
Move it slowly across the surface
Wait for the indicator to signal a stud
Mark the stud location with a pencil
Continue scanning to find the stud edges
Mark both edges to locate the center
Confirm the center by scanning again
Drill or nail into the marked stud location
