Bring geraniums indoors before the first frost
Inspect plants for pests and remove damaged leaves
Dig up garden geraniums and shake off excess soil
Pot each plant in a container with drainage holes
Use fresh, well-draining potting mix
Cut plants back by about one-third to one-half
Place in a cool, bright location
Water sparingly, only when the soil is mostly dry
Avoid fertilizing during winter
Remove yellowing or dead leaves as needed
Check regularly for pests and disease
In late winter or early spring, increase light and watering
Resume fertilizing when new growth appears
Move outdoors after all danger of frost has passed
