Place the can opener on the rim of the can
Align the cutting wheel with the edge of the lid
Close the handles or clamp the opener onto the can
Turn the knob or crank to start cutting
Rotate the knob or crank steadily around the can
Continue until the lid is fully cut
Open the handles or release the clamp
Remove the opener from the can
Lift off the lid carefully
Dispose of the lid safely
