How to Stop Bleeding After Wisdom Tooth Extraction?

Bite firmly on clean gauze placed over the extraction site for 30–60 minutes

Replace the gauze and repeat if bleeding continues

Use a damp black tea bag instead of gauze and bite down for 30 minutes

Keep your head elevated

Rest and avoid strenuous activity

Do not rinse, spit, or use a straw for 24 hours

Do not smoke or vape

Avoid hot drinks and hot foods

Avoid alcohol

Apply a cold pack to the outside of your face for 15–20 minutes at a time

Take only medications approved by your dentist or oral surgeon

Avoid touching the area with your tongue or fingers

If bleeding is heavy or does not slow after several hours, contact your dentist or oral surgeon

Seek urgent care if bleeding is severe, you feel faint, or you have trouble breathing or swallowing
