How to Ease Pain in Ear?

Apply a warm compress to the affected ear for 10 to 15 minutes

Take over-the-counter pain relievers such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen as directed

Keep the ear dry

Avoid putting anything into the ear

Sleep with the affected ear slightly elevated

Chew gum or swallow to help relieve pressure if pain is from changes in air pressure

Use over-the-counter ear drops only if recommended on the label and not if you suspect a ruptured eardrum

Stay hydrated

Rest and avoid loud noises

See a doctor if the pain is severe, lasts more than a day or two, or is accompanied by fever, drainage, hearing loss, or swelling
