Tilt your head so the affected ear faces downward
Gently pull the earlobe in different directions to help water drain
Lie on your side with the affected ear down
Use a warm compress against the ear for a few minutes
Create a gentle vacuum by cupping your hand over the ear and releasing it
Chew, yawn, or move your jaw to help open the ear canal
Use a hair dryer on the lowest heat and speed, held at a safe distance
Try over-the-counter drying ear drops if you do not have a perforated eardrum or ear infection
Avoid inserting cotton swabs, fingers, or other objects into the ear
Seek medical care if pain, discharge, hearing loss, dizziness, or persistent fluid occurs
