Sit down and rest for 5 minutes
Remove tight clothing from the upper arm
Place the cuff on the bare upper arm
Position the bottom edge of the cuff about 1 inch above the elbow crease
Align the artery marker with the inside of the arm if present
Wrap the cuff snugly around the arm
Make sure the cuff is level with the heart
Keep the arm supported and relaxed
Do not place the cuff over clothing
Do not make the cuff too tight or too loose
