Turn off the water supply to the tub/shower if needed
Place a towel or rag over the drain to catch small parts
Inspect the tub spout to identify the attachment type
Look underneath the spout for a set screw
If there is a set screw, loosen it with the correct Allen wrench
Pull the spout straight off the pipe
If there is no set screw, check whether the spout is threaded
Rotate the spout counterclockwise to remove it from the pipe
Clean the pipe threads and remove old plumber’s tape or debris
Apply new plumber’s tape to the pipe threads if the new spout requires it
Slide or thread the new tub spout onto the pipe
Tighten the set screw if the spout uses one
Make sure the spout is aligned correctly
Turn the water back on
Test the diverter by pulling or lifting it to confirm proper flow to the shower
Check for leaks around the spout and pipe connection
