Rinse 1 cup of rice until the water runs clear
Add the rice to a pot with 6 to 8 cups of water or broth
Bring to a boil over medium-high heat
Reduce the heat to low
Simmer, stirring occasionally, until the rice breaks down and becomes soft
Cook for 30 to 60 minutes, adding more liquid if needed
Season with salt to taste
Serve plain or with desired toppings
