Turn off the water supply to the shower
Open the faucet to drain any remaining water
Cover the drain to catch small parts
Remove the handle screw or set screw
Pull off the handle
Remove the escutcheon plate screws
Pull off the escutcheon plate
Remove the retaining clip or bonnet nut
Pull out the cartridge or valve stem
Disconnect any supply lines if accessible
Remove mounting screws or brackets
Pull the faucet body from the wall
Clean the area before installing a replacement
