How To Stop A Nosebleed?

Sit upright and lean forward slightly

Pinch the soft part of the nose (nostrils) firmly

Hold continuous pressure for 10–15 minutes without releasing

Breathe through your mouth

After 10–15 minutes, check if bleeding has stopped

If still bleeding, repeat pressure for another 10–15 minutes

Apply a cold pack to the bridge of the nose if available

Once stopped, avoid blowing your nose, heavy lifting, bending over, or strenuous activity for 24 hours

Keep the head elevated

Use saline spray or a thin layer of petroleum jelly inside the nostrils if dryness/crusting occurs

Seek emergency care if bleeding won’t stop after 20 minutes of firm pressure

Seek emergency care if bleeding is heavy, you feel faint, or you have trouble breathing

Seek emergency care if the nosebleed followed a significant injury

Seek medical care if nosebleeds are frequent, severe, or you take blood thinners
