Turn off the water supply to the bathtub
Plug the drain to prevent losing small parts
Remove the faucet handle screw
Pull off the handle
Remove the escutcheon or trim plate if needed
Inspect the cartridge, stem, washer, O-ring, or valve seat
Replace worn or damaged parts
Clean mineral buildup from faucet components
Apply plumber’s grease to moving parts and O-rings
Reinstall the faucet parts in reverse order
Turn the water supply back on
Test the faucet for leaks and proper operation
Tighten connections if leaks remain
Replace the entire faucet assembly if repairs do not stop the leak
