Wash your hands
Scrape the stinger out with a fingernail, credit card, or other flat edge
Do not squeeze the stinger or venom sac
Wash the sting area with soap and water
Apply a cold pack for 10 to 15 minutes
Elevate the area if possible
Take an antihistamine if itching or swelling occurs
Use hydrocortisone cream or calamine lotion for itching
Take acetaminophen or ibuprofen for pain if needed
Seek emergency help if there is trouble breathing, swelling of the face or throat, dizziness, or a severe allergic reaction
Seek medical care if the sting is in the mouth, eye, or causes worsening redness, warmth, pus, or fever
