Wash your hands
Clean the area with soap and water
Sterilize tweezers and a needle with rubbing alcohol
If the splinter tip is visible, grasp it with tweezers and pull it out in the same direction it entered
If the splinter is just under the skin, gently use the needle to lift the skin over the tip
Use tweezers to remove the exposed splinter
Wash the area again after removal
Apply antiseptic or antibiotic ointment
Cover with a clean bandage
Seek medical help if the splinter is deep, near the eye, too painful to remove, or shows signs of infection
