Call emergency services or go to the nearest emergency department immediately
Keep the arm still and supported in the position found
Do not try to push the shoulder back into place
Do not move the arm or shoulder unnecessarily
Remove rings, bracelets, or tight clothing if possible
Apply a cold pack wrapped in cloth for 15 to 20 minutes at a time
Support the arm with a sling or folded towel if available
Watch for numbness, weakness, pale skin, or loss of pulse in the arm or hand
Seek urgent medical care even if the pain improves
Follow up with a doctor after reduction for imaging and further treatment
Rest the shoulder as directed after treatment
Use prescribed pain relief only as directed
Begin rehabilitation exercises only when cleared by a healthcare professional
