Wash your hands and put on gloves if available
Clean the area with soap and water or rubbing alcohol
Use fine-tipped tweezers to grasp the tick’s head as close to the skin as possible
Pull upward with steady, even pressure
Do not twist, squeeze, or dig at the skin
If the head is still embedded and easy to see, try to remove it gently with sterile tweezers
If you cannot remove it easily, leave it alone and let the skin expel it naturally
Clean the area again after removal
Apply an antiseptic or antibiotic ointment if available
Watch for redness, swelling, pus, fever, or rash
Seek medical care if the area worsens or if you cannot remove the embedded part
