Wash your hands and the area with soap and water
Soak the skin in warm water for 10 to 15 minutes to soften it
Use adhesive tape to gently lift out a shallow splinter
Apply a paste of baking soda and water, then cover with a bandage for a few hours
Use a sterilized needle to gently open the skin over the splinter tip
Press gently around the splinter to help it come out
Use a clean magnifying glass and bright light to locate the splinter tip
Rinse the area again after removal
Apply antiseptic or antibiotic ointment
Cover with a clean bandage
Seek medical help if the splinter is deep, under a nail, near the eye, or infected
