Wash your hands
Remove the suppository from its wrapper
If needed, moisten it with a little water or use a water-based lubricant
Lie on your side with one knee bent, or stand with one foot raised
Gently separate the buttocks
Insert the suppository pointed end first into the rectum
Push it in about 1 inch for adults, or as directed for children
Stay lying down for a few minutes
Wash your hands again
Avoid using the bathroom for at least 15 minutes unless instructed otherwise
