Wash your hands
Remove the suppository from its wrapper
If needed, moisten the tip with water or use a water-based lubricant
Lie on your side with one knee bent, or stand with one foot raised
Gently insert the suppository into the rectum, pointed end first
Push it in about 1 inch for adults, or as directed for children
Stay lying down for a few minutes if possible
Wash your hands again
Avoid using the bathroom right away unless instructed otherwise
Follow the package instructions or your doctor’s directions
